What We Do

Pilates

What is Pilates?
Pilates is a complete exercise method focusing on building your body's core strength and improving your posture through a series of low repetition, low impact stretching and conditioning exercises.

Pilates particularly targets the development of your core muscles, specifically in the back, abdomen and pelvis. Working on the core muscles will increase flexibility and agility, plus tone your stomach, thigh muscles and other areas of the body. It also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony.

Pilates is based on the eight principles of:
  • Relaxation
  • Alignment
  • Control
  • Precision
  • Routine
  • Breathing
  • Centering

Pilates is safe for all ages, and particularly suite to the older person due to its low impact nature. It is also ideal exercise during and after pregnancy, due to its focus on the abdomen and pelvic floor.

One-to-One Sessions
If you are new to Pilates and want to try it out or feel uncomfortable in a group class, we offer private one-to-one sessions with a highly experienced instructor, Julie Brown. She can give detailed instruction as to technique, ensuring that you take the maximum gain from your sessions.
Julie can also create an individually tailored programme, ideally suited to your personal needs and goals. The series of exercises prescribed is written up for you to take away. Follow up sessions can be spread out to check your progress and revise the programme.
